A Camera that's Pocket Friendly
The new Flip Mino HD will surely delight those who had fun using its predecessors. Although there aren't many significant differences between the new and the older versions, certain features of the new Flip Mino HD give it an edge over the earlier versions.
The pocket camera looks slim, in fact, almost 1.5 inches slimmer than the previous model. Its stunning metal body makes it a sight to behold. Moreover, it is more comfortable to grip even with a single hand, thanks to its soft rounded edges. This is a good variation from the older models' sharp-edged plastic body.
The new screen is sharper and bigger; it has a video resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and is 2 inches in width. The best part about the new Mino HD is the capacity of its internal memory. It is now 8 GB, which is two times that of the earlier models. Moreover, you can now watch videos for continuously two hours instead of one hour. As the company Flip has been acquired by Cisco, some drastic changes have happened in almost everything. The improved features of the camera are surely a sign of the same. The processor speed has been enhanced too.
A new feature is the HDMI port that enables sharing of videos on HD screens. This port was there earlier too but it used to be closed by an ugly looking cap. However, in the new model, you can open and close this cover using a small switch. Absolutely smart nah! The bad part is that the camera does not come with a HDMI cable. You have to buy one for yourself separately.
However, some features are exactly the same as they were in the older models. Features such as the extremely sensitive touch pads, which are activated even by an accidental touch, the lens, and the sensor have remained the same. These features are very infuriating. The sensor is perfect for close up shots when the lighting is appropriate. When the light is low, the result is hazy. The camera does not have optical zoom so one cannot take stills.
This new pocket camera is definitely a very simple and easy-to-use camera that is suitable for recording videos. And it does not burn a hole into your pocket. Although the Kodak models are better, the Flip gives them fair competition. However, for the Flip to survive the intense competition from smart phones and ipod nano that are known for their superb performance, the flaws will have to be taken care of soon.
